Gay Love in Pre-colonial Africa

An interesting article in the SMUG archives about gay love in pre-colonial Africa:

Gay Love in Precolonial Africa:
The Untold story of Uganda Martyrs

[UPDATE May 2013: SMUG's website has expired. Sorry!]

One of the phrases repeated regularly by anti-gay campaigners is that homosexuality is a 'western import' and 'not Africa'.

Although, oddly, television, cars and Christianity don't seem to have attracted the same levels of ire.

Anyway, it's nice to see, looking back through history, that gay people are just as much a part of global humanity as bigoted tyrants are a part of global politics.
